Lepetidae was named by Gray (1850) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5284]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Patelloidea by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); to Patellacea by Knight et al. (1960), Kosnik (2002); to Acmaeoidea by Beesley (1998), Jeffery (2003); and to Lottioidea by Bouchet et al. (2005), Bouchet et al. (2017).
