Taxonomy
Ostrea vicksburgensis was named by Conrad (1848) [m. kosnik taxon no: 6783; DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Vicksburg, which is in a Rupelian marine marl in the Byram Marl Formation of Mississippi.

It was recombined as Alectryonia vicksburgensis by Palmer and Brann (1965); it was recombined as Alectryonella vicksburgensis by May (1974); it was recombined as Lopha (Lopha) vicksburgensis by Dockery (1980) and Dockery (1982).
