Venus puerpera was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene-Recent; Indian Ocean.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Periglypta.
It was recombined as Venus (Omphaloclathrum) puerpera by Vredenburg (1928); it was recombined as Antigona puerpera by Cox (1936), Eames (1950); it was recombined as Periglypta puerpera by Woodring (1982), Wilson (2002).
