Plesiotrochidae was named by Houbrick (1990) [m. kosnik taxon no: 7649]. It is extant. Its type is Plesiotrochus.

It was assigned to Architaenioglossa by Harzhauser (2004); and to Campaniloidea by Beesley (1998), Lozouet et al. (2001), Bouchet et al. (2005).
