Taxonomy
Murex vertagus was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Indo-Pacific.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Rhinoclavis.

It was recombined as Rhinoclavis vertagus by Swainson (1840), Hoerle (1972) and Short and Potter (1987).
