Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
J. Gründel and A. Nützel 2012After Wenz & zilch (1959) and burn & thOMpsOn (1998), emendated: The shell is ovate, inflated to bulbous with a short, elevated conical spire. The columella has one to four strong folds. The whorls are convex. Most species have an ornament of distinct spiral grooves which are commonly pitted. Rarely the shell is smooth or axially ribbed. The aperture is oblique drop shaped. It is strongly narrowed by folds, denticles and callus. The outer lip is thickened with an external bulge and commonly denticulate internally. The aperture has a more or less pronounced anterior notch. The protoconch is smooth and strongly medioaxial or coaxial.
