Masonoceras kentuckiense was named by Work and Manger (2002). Its type specimen is SUI 95340. Its type locality is Farmers Fauna, basal nancy Member, Borden Formation, Kentucky, which is in an Ivorian marine horizon in the Borden Formation of Kentucky.
