Revueltosaurus was named by Hunt (1989). It is not extant. Its type is Revueltosaurus callenderi. It was considered monophyletic by Nesbitt (2011).

It was considered a nomen dubium by Sereno (1991); it was considered a nomen dubium by Norman et al. (2004).

It was assigned to Ornithischia by Hunt (1989), Hunt and Lucas (1993), Hunt and Lucas (1994), Long and Murry (1995), Godefroit and Cuny (1997); to Ornithischia by Lucas and Heckert (1996), Heckert (2002); to Pseudosuchia by Parker et al. Synonyms

Thecodontosaurus gibbidens was named by Cope (1878). Its type specimen is AMNH 2339 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Wheatley's Copper Mines, Emigsville (AMNH), which is in a Norian terrestrial horizon in the New Oxford Formation of Pennsylvania.

It was recombined as Galtonia gibbidens by Hunt and Lucas (1994), Godefroit and Cuny (1997), Heckert and Lucas (1998), Weishampel (2006); it was considered a nomen dubium by Norman et al. (2004), Irmis et al. (2007), Nesbitt et al. (2007).
Galtonia was named by Hunt and Lucas (1994). It is not extant.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Norman et al. (2004); it was synonymized subjectively with Revueltosaurus by Irmis et al. (2007), Nesbitt et al. (2007).

Pekinosaurus olseni was named by Hunt and Lucas (1994). It is not extant. Its type specimen is YPM 8545. Its type locality is East of Pekin (PROXY), which is in a Carnian terrestrial horizon in the Pekin Formation of North Carolina.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Norman et al. (2004); it was considered a nomen dubium by Irmis et al. (2007), Nesbitt et al. (2007).

Heckert 2002	Moderately large, primitive ornithischian distinguished from all other ornithischians by a combination of its size (tooth crowns approximately 7–15 mm tall); numerous small denticles (more than 7/carina); denticles proportionately short and often worn to the enamel by precise occlusion; Revueltosaurus also lacks a true cingulum that was involved in mastication; differs from all ornithischians except heterodontosaurids by having premaxillary tooth crowns approximately twice as tall as maxillary/dentary tooth crowns.
