Taxonomy
Moeriophis schweinfurthi was named by Andrews (1901). Its type specimen is CGM 10194, a set of vertebrae, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Pterosphenus schweinfurthi by Andrews (1901), Andrews (1906), Antunes (1964), Rage (1984), Parmley and DeVore (2005), McCartney and Seiffert (2016).
