Palaeophis grandis
Taxonomy
Dinophis grandis was named by Marsh (1869). Its type specimen is YPM 2762 (single dorsal vertebra) and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Shark River, which is in a Lutetian terrestrial horizon in the Shark River Formation of New Jersey.
It was recombined as Palaeophis grandis by Cope (1870), Cope (1872), Cope (1872), Hay (1902), Hay (1930), Rage (1984), Parmley and Reed (2003) and Parmley and DeVore (2005).
