Peripetoceras bridgeportense was named by Tucker and Mapes (1978). Its type specimen is SUI42484. Its type locality is Locality 2, Lake Bridgeport Shale, Wise Co., TX, which is in a Missourian marine shale in the Wolf Mountain Formation of Texas.
