Taxonomy
Leptotyphlopidae was named by Stejneger (1892). It is extant. It was considered monophyletic by Palci et al. (2013).

It was assigned to Typhlopoidea by Kuhn (1966); to Serpentes by Frank and Ramus (1996); to Scolecophidia by Vidal and Hedges (2002); and to Scolecophidia by Palci et al. (2013), Peralta and Ferrero (2024).
