Priscagama was named by Borsuk-Bialynicka and Moody (1984).

It was assigned to Priscagamidae by Alifanov (1993); to Agamidae by Gao and Hou (1996); to Priscagaminae by Borsuk-Bialynicka and Moody (1984), Gao and Hou (1995), Alifanov (2000), Gao and Norell (2000); and to Priscagaminae by Reeder et al. (2015).
