Zaraasuchus shepardi

Taxonomy
Zaraasuchus shepardi was named by Pol and Norell (2004). Its type specimen is IGM 100/1321, a partial skeleton (posterior region of skull and lower jaws in articulation with cervical vertebrae, osteoderms, and forelimb elements), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Zos, Ukhaa Tolgod (AMNH), which is in a Campanian fluvial sandstone in the Djadokhta Formation of Mongolia.

Norell 2004Small crocodyliform diagnosed by the following combination of characters: sculptured skull bones that are ornamented with thin and continuous ridges; anterior margin of infratemporal fenestra almost completely formed by the postorbital; retroarticular process with a pointed, well developed posterolateral process, the surface of which is ornamented; extremely well-developed keels on dorsal and lateral cervical osteoderms, the heights of which are approximately equal in length to the lateromedial extension of the dorsal osteoderms.
