Taxonomy
Ecculiomphalus distans was named by Billings (1865). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Eccyliomphalus distans by Ulrich and Scofield (1897); it was recombined as Lytospira distans by Rohr et al. (2003), Wagner (2023).
