Dolabra lusitanica was named by Sharpe (1853) [Dolabra? lusitanica]. It is the type species of Hemiprionodonta.
It was recombined as Glyptarca lusitanica by Babin and Gutiérrez-Marco (1991); it was recombined as Hemiprionodonta lusitanica by Cope (1996), Gutiérrez-Marco and Babin (1999), Sánchez and Babin (2005).
