Turanta was named by Pessagno and Blome (1982) [Sepkoski's age data: J Toar-l J Tith-l Sepkoski's reference number: 156,763].

It was assigned to Tripedurnulidae by Hull (1997); and to Nassellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
