Hannatoma gesteri

Taxonomy
Melanatria gesteri was named by Hanna and Israelsky (1925). Its type specimen is CAS 1712, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS Loc. 334, Punto Sal Chico [Negritos Fm], which is in an Eocene marine shale in the Negritos Formation of Peru.

It was recombined as Hannatoma gesteri by Olsson (1931).

Israelsky 1925Shell, robust, spire turreted, composed of eight post-nuclear whorls; sutures deeply impressed, bordered above and below by an irregular, rounded, spiral, ridge; body whorl with these two ridges and three smaller ones below ; the uppermost of the three shows above the suture on the penultimate whorl ; columella twisted, and apparently heavily calloused in full-grown specimens; these (No. 1712, C.A.S. coll.) have a decided anal
sulcus in the upper angle of the aperture; peristome thin; canal of moderate length only.
