Taxonomy
Aldanella crassa was named by Rozanov et al. (1969) [Aldanella crassa Missarzhevsky in Rozanov, Missarzhevsky, Volkova, Voronova, Krylov, Keller, Korolyuk, Lendzion, Mikhnyar, Pykhova & Sidorov 1969]. Its type specimen is GIN 3593/97, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is M410/73, Ary-Mas-Yuryakh River mouth, which is in a Tommotian carbonate limestone in the Medvezhyn Formation of the Russian Federation.

It was synonymized subjectively with Aldanella attleborensis by Landing (1988).
