Taxonomy
Astralites gamblei was named by Blodgett et al. (2003). It is not extant. Its type locality is USGS 10061-SD (=79RB8). ~3 m thick silicified hoirizon, 104.5-101.5 m below top, which is in an Eifelian carbonate limestone in the Cheeneetnuk Formation of Alaska.
