Taxonomy
Akademiophyllum was named by Radugin (1964) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda Sepkoski's reference number: 1006]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Akademiophylloidea, Akademiophyllidae.

It was assigned to Cribricyathea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Akademiophyllidae by Zhuravlev and Kruse (2015).
