Rushtonia was named by Cobbold and Pocock (1934) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Tomm-u Cm Boto-l Sepkoski's reference number: 522,1006,1244].

It was assigned to Torellellidae by Fisher (1962); and to Hyolithelminthes by Sepkoski (2002).
