Orthonema liratum was named by Sayre (1930). Its type specimen is U. Kansas Coll., a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

Knight 1934 | Small, high-spired, very slightly turreted gastropods, with sides straight a t ephebic and convex a t neanic stages; whorl profile convexly shouldered above the upper revolving carina, gently concave on the whorl-face between the upper carina and the lower pair, gently rounded on the base without a pronounced angulation a t the lower pair of carinae; columella slightly arcuate; inner lip slightly reflexed; parietal inductura thin and inconspicuous; outer lip unknown; ornamentation, three weak revolving carinae, the single upper one of the lower pair the stronger; the upper carina separated from the upper suture by a convex, outwardsloping area a little over half as wide as the concave band on the whorlface; the two lower carinae closely spaced, both showing above the lower suture and with traces of a faint revolving thread in the area between them; lines of growth very obscure; color pattern unknown. |
