Mongolitubulus was named by Missarzhevsky (1977) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-l Cm mMid Sepkoski's reference number: 1244]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Mongolitubulus squamifer.

It was assigned to Problematica by Sepkoski (2002); to Pseudoconodontida by Landing et al. (2002); and to Bradoriida by Kouchinsky et al. (2011).
