Abyssamina was named by Schnitker and Tjalsma (1980) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than T Mi-l-l]. It was considered unknown by Schnitker and Tjalsma (1980).

It was assigned to Pallaimorphininae by Schnitker and Tjalsma (1980); and to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002).

Diagnosis

D. Schnitker and L. R. C. Tjalsma 1980Test free, spheroidal to compressed. Coiling nearly planispiral with a tendency to become trochospiral, chambers strongly overlapping. Two to 2 1/2 whorls, usually with four chambers in the last whorl. Aperture a half crescentic slit at the base of the last chamber, positioned asymmetrically between the periphery and umbilical area. Apertural face some-what slanted towards dorsal side. Wall calcareous, granular and finely perforate.
