Taxonomy
Rigalites was named by Huene (1931). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Rigalites ischigualastianus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Chirotherium by Klein and Lucas (2021).

It was assigned to Reptilia by Huene (1931); to Ornithischia by Kuhn (1958), Kuhn (1963); to Batrachopodidae by Haubold (1969); to Batrachopodidae by Haubold (1971); to Protosuchia by Haubold (1974); and to Pseudosuchia by Leonardi (1994).
