Conocardium angelicum was named by Talent and Philip (1956). Its type locality is Old Toongabbie Marble Quarry, Upper Quarry, Marble Creek, which is in a Siegen carbonate limestone in the Toongabble Limestone Formation of Australia.
It was recombined as Hippocardia angelicum by Tassell (1982), Wagner (2023).
