Parkula was named by Bengtson et al. (1990) [Bengston in Bengston et al.; Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-u Sepkoski's reference number: 923]. Its type is Parkula bounites.

It was assigned to Hyolithida by Sepkoski (2002).
