Buccinum breve was named by Sowerby (1827). It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Devononerita.
It was recombined as Macrocheilus breve by Phillips (1841); it was recombined as Liotia brevis by Whidborne (1891), Heidelberger (2001); it was recombined as Devononerita breve by Blodgett and Frýda (1999); it was recombined as Devononerita brevis by Wagner (2023).
