Taxonomy
Cardium hibernicum was named by Sowerby (1815). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Pleurorhynchus hibernicus by Phillips (1836); it was recombined as Conocardium hibernicum by de Koninck (1885), Hind (1900), Fletcher (1943); it was recombined as Hippocardia hibernica by Brown (1843), Pojeta and Runnegar (1976), Amler (1996), Hoare and Aghababula (2001), Amler and Rogalla (2004), Rogalla and Amler (2006), Wagner (2023).
