Afghanella was named by Thompson (1946) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 146]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Neoschwagerininae by Skinner and Wilde (1967); to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Neoschwagerinidae by Kiessling (2003).
