Micropilina was named by Warén (1989) [Sepkoski's age data: Q Plei Sepkoski's reference number: ZR91]. It is extant. Its type is Micropilina minuta. It is the type genus of Micropilinidae.
It was assigned to Micropilinidae by Haszprunar and Schaeffer (1997); and to Tryblidiida by Sepkoski (2002).
