Cyclonema (Gyronema) praecipitum was named by Ulrich and Scofield (1897). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Murfreesboro, which is in an Ashbyan shallow subtidal wackestone/packstone in the Murfreesboro Limestone Formation of Tennessee.
It was recombined as Gyronema praecipitum by Bassler (1932); it was recombined as Cyclonema praecipitum by Thompson (1970), Wagner (2023).
