Yochelcionella was named by Runnegar and Pojeta (1974) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Tomm-l Cm uMid-l Sepkoski's reference number: 110,1034]. Its type is Yochelcionella cyrano.
It was assigned to Cyrtonellida by Bengtson (1992); to Helcionelloida by Sepkoski (2002); to Helcionellidae by Gubanov et al. (2004); and to Yochelcionellidae by Runnegar and Jell (1976), Missarzhevsky (1989), Landing and Bartowski (1996), Landing et al. (2002), Parkhaev (2002), Atkins and Peel (2004), Bouchet et al. (2005), Wagner (2023).
