Taxonomy
Loxonema cerithiformis was named by Meek and Worthen (1860). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Trypanostylus cerithiformis by Delpey (1942); it was recombined as Streptacis cerithiformis by Sturgeon (1964), Yochelson and Saunders (1967), Hoare et al. (1997); it was recombined as Microptychis cerithiformis by Kues and Batten (2001), Wagner (2023).
