Beshtashella was named by Missarzhevsky and Mambetov (1981) [Missarzhevsky in Missarzhevsky & Mambetov 1981 Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1006,923]. Its type is Beshtashella tortilis.

It was assigned to Onychochilidae by Missarzhevsky and Mambetov (1981), Missarzhevsky (1989), Bengtson et al. (1990), Elicki (1994), Elicki (1996), Parkhaev (2001), Parkhaev (2002); to Mollusca by Sepkoski (2002); and to Helcionelloida by Gubanov et al. (2004).
