Gibbaspira was named by He (1984) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Tomm-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1006]. It is not extant. Its type is Gibbaspira acutumbonalis.
It was synonymized subjectively with Latouchella by Parkhaev and Demidenko (2010).
It was assigned to Mollusca by Sepkoski (2002); to Coreospiridae by Parkhaev (2002); and to Pseudomelatomidae by Bouchet et al. (2011).
