Latouchella was named by Cobbold (1921) [Sepkoski's age data: V N-Da-u Cm uMid-u Sepkoski's reference number: 270,529,885,1030]. Its type is Latouchella costata.

It was assigned to Latouchellidae by Golikov and Starobogatov (1989); to Cyrtonellida by Bengtson (1992); to Helcionelloida by Sepkoski (2002); to Helcionellidae by Runnegar and Jell (1976) and Gubanov et al. (2004); and to Coreospiridae by Knight et al. (1960), Rozanov et al. (1969), Missarzhevsky (1989), Parkhaev (2002), Bouchet et al. (2005) and Parkhaev and Demidenko (2010).

P. Y. Parkhaev and Y. Demidenko 2010	"Planospiral shell composed of one or two evolute, laterally compressed, and rapidly expanding whorls. Exterior shell ornamentation composed of concentric folds and ribs, developed in various extent, rarely thin radial ornamentation can be present. Ornamentation of internal mold similar to that of shell. Aperture elliptical or elongated oval, without flaring; sometimes posterior sinus can be present."
