Pleurotomaria kearnyi was named by Hall (1861). It is not extant. It is the type species of Palaeotrochus.

It was recombined as Palaeotrochus kearneyi by Hall (1879); it was recombined as Palaeotrochus kearnyi by Wagner (2023).
