Pygmaeoconus was named by Horný (1961) [Sepkoski's age data: O l O Llde-l Sepkoski's reference number: 110]. It is not extant. Its type is Palaeacmaea porrecta.
It was assigned to Hypseloconidae by Horný (1963), Runnegar and Jell (1976), Gutiérrez-Marco and Martin Sánchez (1983); to Protoconchoididae by Horný (1997); to Mollusca by Sepkoski (2002); to Pygmaeoconinae by Horný (2006); and to Pygmaeoconidae by Ponder et al. (2020).
