Yunnanopleura was named by Yü (1987) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Tomm-u Sepkoski's reference number: 951,1006]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Purellinae by Feng et al. (2001); to Mollusca by Yü (1987), Sepkoski (2002); and to Maikhanellidae by Ponder et al. (2007), Parkhaev and Demidenko (2010), Kouchinsky et al. (2017).

Posterior field evenly convex, become straight near aperture. Anterior field very short, straight or slightly concave. Aperture egg-shaped with pulled out anterior end. External shell ornamentation scaly, distinct near aperture and smoothed out dorsally. Scales elongated, parallel to growth lines. Anterior field bears larger and more prominent scales, which form triangular flattened dentition on anterior apertural margin." |
