Gotlandochiton was named by Bergenhayn (1955) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren S Wenl-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1029]. It is not extant. Its type is Gotlandochiton interplicatus. It is the type genus of Gotlandochitonidae.
It was assigned to Gotlandochitonidae by Bergenhayn (1955); and to Paleoloricata by Sepkoski (2002).
