Taxonomy
Helminthochiton was named by Salter (1846) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren P Leon-u Sepkoski's reference number: 275,1029 Salter in M'Coy 1846]. It is not extant. Its type is Helminthochiton griffithi.

It was assigned to Lepidopleuridae by Debrock et al. (1984); to Neoloricata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Helminthochitonidae by Sigwart (2007).
