Taxonomy
Porcellanasteridae was named by Sladen (1883) [initially considered as a sub-familly of Astropectinidae]. It is extant. It was considered monophyletic by Gale (1987) and Mah and Blake (2012).

It was assigned to Cribellina by Fisher (1911), Spencer and Wright (1966) and Gale (1987); to Cribellina by Gale (2011); and to Paxillosida by Blake (1989) and Mah and Blake (2012).
