Taxonomy
Odontasteridae was named by Verrill (1899). It is extant. It was considered monophyletic by Gale (1987) and Mah and Blake (2012).

It was assigned to Granulosina by Spencer and Wright (1966); to Spinulosida by Gale (2011); and to Valvatida by Verrill (1899), Gale (1987), Blake (1989), Mah and Blake (2012) and Ewin and Gale (2020).
