Tolmachovia was named by Howell and Kobayashi (1936) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-u O Llde Sepkoski's reference number: 542]. It is not extant. Its type is Tolmachovia concentrica.
It was assigned to Technophoridae by Pojeta and Runnegar (1976); to Ribeirioida by Sepkoski (2002); to Tolmachoviidae by Bouchet et al. (2010); and to Ischyriniidae by Wagner (2023).
