Taxonomy
Amnicola was named by Gould and Haldeman (1841). It is extant. It is the type genus of Amnicolidae.

It was assigned to Hydrobiidae by Berry (1943) and Pan (1977); and to Amnicolidae by Bouchet et al. (2005).
