Taxonomy
Piatnitzkyceras bonarellii was named by Medina and Riccardi (2005) [TYPE LOCALITY: Estancia La Federica, Lago San Martin, Argentina (Lower Albian). TYPE REPOSITORY: MLP, Argentina]. Its type specimen is MLP30143 and is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Rio Mayer Fm (580 m) - Estancia La Federica, which is in an Albian marine shale in the Rio Mayer Formation of Argentina. It is the type species of Piatnitzkyceras.
