Spinula (Bathyspinula) was named by Filatova (1958). It is extant. Its type is Spinula (Bathyspinula) oceanica.

It was reranked as Bathyspinula by Coan et al. (2000), Spencer et al. (2004).

It was assigned to Leda (Spinula) by Filatova (1958); to Bathyspinulinae by Coan et al. (2000); and to Nuculanidae by Spencer et al. (2004).
