It was reranked as the family Aspenitidae by Tozer (1981), Shigeta and Nguyen (2014).

It was assigned to Hedenstroemiidae by Spath (1934); to Sagecerataceae by Tozer (1981); and to Sageceratoidea by Shigeta and Nguyen (2014).
